On November 28 and 29, 2025, the FinKa Hostel in Mals (Val Venosta, South Tyrol) turns into something special – a living-room festival for singer-songwriters. Just 40 seats each night, intimate concerts, tavern tunes, and shared meals: the FinKa Festival 2025 is set to be an autumn highlight, up close and unlike anything else. An experience you won’t want to miss.
What Makes the FinKa Festival One of a Kind
At the FinKa Festival 2025 you won’t be stuck knee-deep in mud with a thousand strangers. Instead, you’ll be sitting comfortably – almost like in your own living room – sharing the space with musicians and fellow music lovers in the FinKa’s Spaccio. No oversized stage, no plastic cup battles. Just real atmosphere, real connection.
On November 28–29, 2025, the FinKa Hostel in Mals (Val Venosta, South Tyrol, www.finka.it) becomes a stage for music and meeting – where singer-songwriters and audiences come together. And with this festival, we also want to shine a light on our local music culture.
The FinKa Festival 2025 isn’t about spectacle – it’s South Tyrol’s smallest music festival. Here the focus isn’t on decibels and light shows, but on lyrics, sound, and pure listening pleasure.
The Idea behind the FinKa Festival
The FinKa has seen its share of living-room concerts – those special, unforgettable nights that have become part of our story. What started as a handful of intimate evenings now finds a new home: the FinKa Music Festival. From now on, November belongs to music – and the FinKa becomes a gathering place for singer-songwriters to share, to try things out, and to carry their songs further.
Together with Dominik Plangger (www.dominikplangger.at) – one of the most renowned singer-songwriters in the German-speaking world – we took the idea and spun it into a program that will turn November into true festival time.
This year, on November 28–29, 2025, we celebrate the very first FinKa Festival – a weekend we hope will grow into a fixture of the cultural calendar. And from 2026 onward, the festival expands with an Artist in Residence program: singer-songwriters and small ensembles will live and work in the FinKa throughout November – and bring their new songs to the festival stage for the very first time.
For them, the FinKa Salone becomes rehearsal space and session room. Guests who stay with us in that period get to witness it all firsthand – music being born right here in the house. The artists become part of the life of the place, and November takes on a character all its own.
This singer-songwriter festival is intentionally small – proudly carrying its title as South Tyrol’s smallest festival. No more than 40 seats each night. For the audience, that means music up close, right in the middle of it all. And it’s not just about concerts: open sessions where musicians play together on a whim, shared meals of traditional Vinschger dishes, and evenings filled with tavern music are all part of the mix. What emerges is more than music – it’s a sense of togetherness that resonates long after.

- 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: Tavern Tunes & Lunch
Tradition on the plate: speck dumplings with sauerkraut. Friends of the FinKa from Augsburg provide the music. A shared experience for all – both musicians and guests staying at the FinKa for the festival.
- 8:00 PM – Concert: Mauro Ferrarese
Mauro Ferrarese is considered one of Italy’s finest Dobro players. His musical roots trace back to New Orleans, where he discovered the blues and African American folk music as a street musician. His repertoire stretches from Delta and Texas blues to ragtime and spirituals – inspired by the great masters of the 1920s to 1940s. Since the 1990s he has appeared at countless blues festivals in Italy and beyond, sharing stages with artists like Robert Cray, Willy DeVille, and Mavis Staples.
- 9:30 PM – Concert: Dominik Plangger & Claudia Fenzl
Dominik Plangger is one of the most acclaimed German-language songwriters of his generation. He started out as a street musician before his own songs brought him wider recognition. His music is poetic, socially critical, and deeply grounded in life – carried by a clear voice and fine guitar work. He also interprets the works of other songwriters, including a German version of Woody Guthrie’s Deportee. In artistic exchange with legends such as Konstantin Wecker and Hannes Wader, he continues to refine his craft. At his side is Claudia Fenzl, whose violin, vocals, and sensitivity for nuance bring an added depth to the music. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dominik_Plangger
